Stephen Ministry is here for you.
Mission: to care for those hurting in our church and community by providing a dependable trained Stephen Minister of the same gender who will meet weekly for an hour to each person wanting someone to listen.
Core Values:
• Compassionate- We care when you are hurting.
• Trustworthy- We keep what is shared confidential.
• Full of Faith- We are Christ-centered and will faithfully pray and trust God to do the curing.
• Skilled- Each Stephen Minister goes through 50 hours of training before being
commissioned by the church. All Stephen Ministers attend continuing education and peer
supervision groups twice a month to ensure a quality caring relationship is fostered.
What we are:
• Lay church members who have the heart to reach out to those going through a difficult time
Stephen Ministers will regularly pray for you (and with you if you would like).
• Trained listeners who will meet or talk on the phone about an hour a week wherever is most
comfortable and convenient for the care receiver and Stephen Minister
• Team members who are held accountable for maintaining a quality caring relationship
Stephen Ministers receive peer supervision that focuses on the caring relationship and
maintaining confidentiality.
• Care givers that meet one-on-one with someone of the same gender
What we are NOT:
• We are NOT counselors.-- Stephen Ministers have only received 50 hours of training to be better listeners, not graduate degrees that took more than four years of schooling plus supervised training.
• We are NOT going to solve problems.-- Stephen Ministers focus on being good listeners, not on helping overcome addictions or cope with a diagnosed emotional condition.
• We are NOT solely focused on evangelism.-- Stephen Ministers will not tell you what to believe or force you to pray, but they will pray with you and share Scripture if you would like.
• We are NOT couples counselors or conflict mediators.-- Stephen Ministers only meet
one-on-one.
